SCALE and FreeScale
Carpet tile collection»When given different formats to choose from, different carpet products, directional flows and colours can then be made use of, and suddenly images arise on the floor.«Hadi Teherani
Vorwerk and Hadi Teherani are giving a new interpretation to the notion of a carpet tile with the collections SCALE and FreeSCALE. As an element for floor design, carpet tiles had not been popular with architects for a long time, above all due to the inflexible format grid and very limited spectrum in terms of designs and quality. SCALE and FreeSCALE deliberately break with these conventions. “When given different formats to choose from, different carpet products, directional flows and colours can then be made use of, and suddenly images arise on the floor,” is how Hadi Teherani explains the concept. In the case of FreeSCALE, rectangular basic elements are joined by complex, freely stylable shapes. A modular system comes about in the process that makes countless varieties of tiling possible, opportunities that had been previously inconceivable for textile floor coverings. With both collections Hadi Teherani and Vorwerk are making architects and interior designers aware again of what a carpet tile can do. In the meantime they are now being grasped as a viable design option, as an individualised asset for planners and designers.
