Neckarbogen Quarter
Residential buildingShaped as a monolithic structure, the building occupies this corner situation so important to the city’s urban development concept in a striking manner. The various arches in the façade are either glassed-in or furnished with recessed loggias, depending on interior specification and on outward views with respect to nearby water or tracking the course of sunlight. A fascinating yet subtle impression of depth arises as a result of these elements, enhanced by the whimsical arrangement of the apertures traversing the corner. The residents’ private sphere remains preserved in the rooms facing outward, neighbouring direct connections from apartment to apartment are avoided. During the daytime sunlight showcases this effect of depth via incident light and shadow, at night the arches illuminate from within. The façade is comprised of up to 100% recycled aluminium foam sandwich panels; the panels themselves are fully recyclable. Their tactile surface enables them to play with effects stemming from the water in the vicinity while contrasting the geometrically very distinct draft with a modern, playful component. The organisation of the floor plan pursues maximum flexibility as its goal so that solely the structural shell along with its load-bearing function and building access core are defined on a permanent basis. Spacious living and dining rooms are achieved by employing an always identical façade and extension grid that, in a spatial sense, enables a very high-quality “unencumbered live-through feel”. In a manner of speaking, it’s this draft approach that provides for a maximum building lifespan at minimal resource consumption during its course of operation. In short: holistically sustainable residential life becomes possible.
