Lofts Falkenried
Residential buildingA walk through the former ‘building D’ of the vehicle workshops in Falkenried, is like a journey through time from 1928 to the year 2000. The combination of protected industrial buildings and modern residential units gives the development it’s particular charm. The architects have planned 39 lofts with balconies, terraces or rooftop gardens, together with a ground floor restaurant. The design sought to retain the industrial charm of the existing buildings as far as possible, and to highlight the contrast between old and new. The most significant redevelopment work relates to the L-shaped factory building to the north-east: while the Falkenried facade, as well as the north-west and south-east facades will essentially be cleaned and pointed, the south-west facade will be replaced by a large, steel and glass construction. With the addition of balconies and loggias, the building is three metres wider. A ‘skydeck’ is created on the existing floor above the second floor, with generous penthouse apartments. The dynamic form of the rooftop extension with it’s metal roof, is in direct contrast to the existing brick building. Loft-like apartments are planned as maisonettes in the third and fourth floors, and as apartments on the ground, first, and second floors. Although all of the different apartment types are designed around an open living room, spatial separation is ensured by the location of kitchens, bathrooms and guest toilets.
»In our architectural concepts, efficiency in form invariably leads to a comprehensive economic solution. «
