Fährhausstrasse
Residential buildingThe apartment building at the Alster is an example of confident integration into the existing urban context. The building adopts the form and language of the neighbouring buildings, yet retains an individual identity.
On the streetfront is the angular, seemingly ‘closed’ facade, with moveable slatted timber screens, which serve to protect the balconies from sun, as well as light and noise pollution. On the Alster front, the rounded facade is opened as much as possible, in order to ensure that a maximum level of daylight can penetrate the apartments, as well as to guarantee breathtaking views of the landscape. The garden, which is dominated by tall trees, is planned as a green buffer area between the Alster and the building, and also doubles up as an urban relaxation area. The charm of the apartments lies in the clear separation of their private sphere - bedrooms, bathrooms and circulation spaces – and very public living areas.
