Narenjestan Tower

BürogebäudeFarmanieh, Teheran, Iran

Due to the urban impact of such a high-density mixed-use tower in one of Tehran's older neighborhoods, the main idea centered around creating a light tower on top while dedicating a semi-public atrium-plaza to the city.

The tower which is supposed to house rentable offices and the headquarter offices for a construction company, was designed to be as slender as possible, maximizing the distance from adjacent buildings and providing uninterrupted views of the city for the offices. This approach also minimizes the impact of this colossal figure on the urban fabric.

While the covered area of the entire building, including the podium and the tower, was intended to occupy 30% of the plot, we proposed an expansive atrium- with 60% covered area- that serves as a vibrant community hub filled with diverse functions such as an amphitheater, library, restaurant, gallery, and cafe. Although the atrium has twice as much covered area as the permit, its lightness allows for additional buildable space.

The seven-story headquarters on top was designed with split level slabs all connected via stairs, creating maximum interaction among staff. Casual meeting points and staircases promote collaboration, while a sky lobby separates this area from the rest of the building. A central concrete core supports the structure, with shear walls extending from the core on the top floor. The shear walls allow for suspended columns throughout the upper levels, freeing the atrium and the glass lobby from structural columns.
