Contemporary Persia
a textile collectionThe textile editor Christian Fischbacher and the architect and designer Hadi Teherani are developing a joint textile collection, „Contemporary Persia“, which will be presented for the first time at the Salone 2022 in Milan. The curtain and upholstery fabrics interpret the unique diversity of Iran, its geographic and cultural richness, in elegant and refined designs. Fine and coarse structures go side by side, natural materials in linen and wool are complemented by inherently flame retardant fabrics in polyester. The colour palette ranges from calm, earthy tones to strong accent colours, which are inspired by the contrasting colours of the Iranian landscape.
For the development of the new collection, the two creative heads of their respective organisations returned to their common Persian roots. Both creative director Camilla Fischbacher and architect Hadi Teherani were born in Iran, but both spent their formative years in Europe and today are based in St. Gallen, Switzerland (Camilla Fischbacher) and Hamburg, Germany, (Hadi Teherani).
„Once we entered into a dialogue, we became aware of the enormous creative power that Iran represents, with its rich cultural heritage,“ says Camilla Fischbacher about the cooperation with the Iranian-German architect and designer. „The high-culture of ancient Persia can still be felt today in many areas.” “At the same time, Iran fascinates with a young, vibrant art and culture scene,“ adds Hadi Tehrani, who has come to know the country in a completely diff erent way since opening an o ice in Tehran a few years ago.
Carpets have always played a central role in Persian aesthetics. And so the team around Hadi Teherani could not resist implementing their design ideas also in the form of two carpets: ROYA and AFSUN. The rugs perfectly match the fabrics in the collection and are hand-tufted in wool and silk.
